'Tangled' live-action remake in the works; 'Greatest Showman' director Michael Gracey to helm

Over a decade after 'Tangled' hit the big screen, Disney has announced that the film will soon get the live-action treatment. Joining a long list of animated classics getting live-action remakes, it was announced on Thursday, that Michael Gracey of 'The Greatest Showman' fame, will helm the project.

Although details about the Rapunzel fairy tale retelling are still under wraps, the film is expected to follow along the lines of the animated version. According to Deadline, the film is being described as a 'revival' of the Oscar-nominated 2010 animated feature.

The original movie saw Mandy Moore lending her voice to the character of Rapunzel while Zachary Levi voiced Flynn Rider and Donna Murphy voiced the evil Mother Gothel. The film grossed $592 million at the global box office and its popularity prompted the creation of the 2012 short film spin-off 'Tangled Ever After' and the 2017 animated TV series 'Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure'.

The critically acclaimed film featured original songs by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater, including the Oscar-nominated and Grammy-winning song 'I See the Light', as well as 'When Will My Life Begin?' and 'Mother Knows Best'. The film also scored a Golden Globe nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.

Meanwhile, the other Disney live-action films awaiting their release include 'How To Train Your Dragon', 'Lilo and Stitch', 'Moana', 'Snow White' and the upcoming 'Mufasa: The Lion King'.
