Despite avoiding the worst storm surge fears, the city of Tampa is still facing the danger of flooding this morning. During a briefing on Thursday, Mayor Jane Castor emphasized that the situation is far from over. She warned that with the high tide expected at 7:00 am, rivers in Hillsborough County, not just in Tampa, are at risk of flooding.

Mayor Castor announced her plans to conduct an aerial tour of the city at first light to assess the extent of the damage caused by the storm. The severe weather has resulted in power outages for most Tampa Energy customers, adding to the challenges faced by residents.

Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw reported a rescue operation carried out by officers overnight. They responded to a house where 15 individuals, including young children, were trapped due to a fallen tree. Fortunately, all of them were successfully rescued from the dangerous situation.

The community is urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as the threat of flooding persists. Local authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents affected by the storm.
