CHENNAI: The BJP state unit on Tuesday threatened to hold a statewide hunger strike and a massive rally in Trichy if the DMK government fails to fulfil its poll promise of slashing fuel prices.
“We will observe hunger strikes in all district headquarters if the government does not reduce the fuel price, as promised in their election manifesto, within 20 days. If it fails to do it in 30 days, we will organise a massive rally in Trichy. It will mark the downfall of the DMK and the rise of the BJP in the state,” said BJP state president K Annamalai while addressing party cadre in Chennai. Annamalai was to lead a rally from Rajarathinam stadium to St George Fort to lay siege to the secretariat demanding reduction of fuel price. The police barricaded the vicinity, not allowing the rally to proceed. After a while, the protestors disbursed from the spot.
