CHENNAI: The railway police personnel have solved the July 7 robbery at Arakonam railway station with the arrest of two people from a hideout outside the station. The two have been sent to jail on Thursday.
Police said Dilip Kumar Aggarwal, 57, of Tumkur in Bengaluru, along with his wife and another person was travelling to Chennai on an express train on July 7.
When the train was chugging out of Arakonam railway station, a man snatched the bag of Aggarwal's wife and got off the moving train. Before Aggarwal could raise an alarm, the train left the station.
Aggarwal filed a complaint at Chennai Central railway station. While checking the CCTV camera footage from Arakonam railway station police noticed two people suspiciously leaving the station on July 7 just at the time of the incident.
A police team traced the suspects in the neighbourhood and apprehended them. During questioning, R Satender Kumar, 40, of Hisar Cantt in Haryana, and P Lokender Kumar, 22, of Dhalpur Zilla in Rajasthan, confessed to the crime.
Police seized ₹3.4 lakh worth of valuables including four sovereigns of gold jewellery, two mobile phones, and ₹500 from them. The GRP have booked them under Section 379 (theft) of IPC and a magistrate court in the city remanded the two to judicial custody.
