A Tallaght school has issued a warning to parents after a man was spotted acting suspiciously near the playground during lunch break on Monday.
Staff members who were supervising noticed that there was a man at the locked gate of the playground in the Old Bawn area.
The man was believed to be directing his phone towards the children before a member of staff instructed him to put his camera away, which he did.
Parents received a letter from the principal explaining that the man didn’t gain entry through the gates of the school.
The letter read: “The teacher noticed that he continued to loiter around the gates. Another member of staff approached the man and asked him why he was there, he changed his reply several times. At this point, An Garda Siochana were called.
“The man left the school and went over to the playground area in front of the community centre where again, I understand he had some interactions with children in the care of their parents/ guardians.
“I have spoken to all staff members who had a first hand account of this incident to ascertain exactly what happened. I am aware that false information is currently circulating on social media about what happened at the school.”
A garda spokesman confirmed that gardai were called to the school in the Old Bawn area of Tallaght.
Gardai engaged with a man at the scene but no arrests were made.
The matter is currently under investigation and parents are urged to speak with their children if they had any interaction with him and to contact Tallaght Garda Station at 016666000 with any information that will help them.
