London has ranked bottom in a survey of how much people in different areas of the country exercise.
According to Nuffield Health’s Healthier Nation Index, Londoners do just 56 minutes of exercise every week. It counted any activity that “raises your heart rate”, such as brisk walking or riding a bike.
Many were apparently unaware that the NHS recommends 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week for adults.
Amid the cost-of-living crisis, paying for access to sports and fitness facilities may be one of the expenses some will cut back on. That’s if there even are facilities available, safe and convenient for people to make use of. But is that something people in London feel more acutely than in other parts of the country, as the study suggests?
