(Picture: Getty Images)Many may have expected Kamila Valieva to be immediately suspended from competing in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics when the news broke that she’d tested positive for banned substance trimetazidine following a sample taken on Christmas Day, but CAS have said she is free to compete in Tuesday’s individual women’s competition. However, Valieva could still receive a suspension once a full investigation of the incident takes place, and the medals for her team event - in which the Russian Olympic Committee won gold - have yet to be awarded.
CAS concluded that: “On the basis of the very limited facts of this case and after consideration of the relevant legal issues, it has been determined that no provisional suspension should be imposed on the athlete.”
