The $44 billion purchase of Twitter by the world’s richest person, and the direction he might take it in, has left many questioning whether to remain on the platform.

Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds is among the high-profile names exploring other social media, having created a Tumblr account.

Other stars have been outspoken about no longer Tweeting. Supermodel Gigi Hadid announced her departure from Twitter via her Instagram account: “For a long time, but especially with its new leadership, it’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate and bigotry, and it’s not a place I want to be part of.”

Are you considering alternatives to Twitter? Let us know in the comments below or on our Instagram for the chance to be featured on the ES website.

Yesterday we asked: What do you think of the operation to arrest climate-change activists?

On Instagram, many comments were in favour of protesters being jailed.

jodib81 said: “The group are condoning and encouraging criminal damage for a start. Throw the book at them I say”

tom_deion stated where the line is: “If it was merely protests, then send them home. If it involved vandalism and/or physically endangering others, then arrest them.”

dlsdonut raised their concern: “Feel they are doing more harm than good to the climate change cause”

Among the users explaining their objection to the M25 protest, nikmilton said: “You cannot infringe on peoples rights of travel. You can protest at the side of the road.” Meanwhile, maxwell_75018 suggested: “Couldn’t they leave 1 lane open to traffic?”

However, greyjonestranmere argued: “People clearly care more about having their transport disrupted for a few hours than having the planet destroyed by the greed of corporations and their puppets in government. Unlike most of these protestors, I am not young and my time left on this planet is brief but for their sakes and for everybody else’s they deserve praise not to be treated as criminals.”
