People could soon have conversations with lamp posts, benches and even bins in Nottingham. Some of the city's street furniture will be able to message passers-by who interact with them as part of a joint University of Nottingham and Nottingham City Council project to gather views on what climate change means for local residents.
Anyone near to 30 different sites in the city will be able to interact with the objects by scanning a QR code or texting the number displayed on them. This will allow them to engage in a two-way conversation via text, Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger.
Participants will be encouraged to share their views, get information about what Nottingham is doing to tackle climate change and find out how to get involved. The year-long project is a joint effort from University of Nottingham, Nottingham City Council, and research company Hello Lamp Post.
