Talk show host Wendy Williams returns to rehab after her substance abuse has 'got worse'

Talk show host Wendy Williams has checked herself back in to rehab to combat her substance abuse issues.

The TV personality's health has "gotten worse" and is now being "treated by a team of some of the best doctors in the world".

Wendy's battle with alcohol abuse spiralled after she fell out with her production company Debmar-Mercury, according to Page Six.

A source told the publication: "It's gotten worse. She went from wine to straight up vodka."

Her health was said to have declined after the company allegedly "refused" to get her help.

"They turned their backs on her," the source explained.

"They had too much control over someone so vulnerable."

Her ex husband, Kevin Hunter, told Page Six that the production company "wouldn't support Wendy's recovery efforts with the family".

Kevin, 50, also said how Wendy's family organised an intervention with Debmar-Mercury.

The group all discussed how they could help Wendy with her struggles.

However, Kevin alleged that the production company told her: "If you don't stop drinking, you're going to lose the show".

Fresh concerns around Wendy's wellbeing first cropped up in August after she claimed she was married to an NYPD officer.

A source said that she had "regressed like crazy" and that she's "not the same Wendy".

Her publicist Shawn Zanotti told The U.S Sun that she "checked into a wellness facility" to "manage her overall health issues".

Shawn said that she was "being treated by some of the best doctors in the world", and that she is set for a "major comeback for the next level in her career with The Wendy Experience Podcast".

Wendy's troubles with alcohol started early into her career.

She relapsed in 2018 and 2019 and at the time said that she was taking time off from her show to treat her Graves' disease.

But after that, she bravely explained that she was in a halfway house to help keep her sober.

“Only Kevin knows about this. Not my parents, nobody. Nobody knew because I look so glamorous out here,” she shared of her treatment center on her show in March 2019," she said.

“After I finish my appointments … I am driven by my 24-hour sober coach back to a home that I live in the tri-state [area] with a bunch of smelly boys who have become my family.”
