Talented Paisley teenagers prepare to take to the stage in top production alongside former EastEnders star John Partridge

Two talented teenagers are taking to the stage as part of a major production next month.

Mia Currie and Brooke Gillies were successful in their audition to be part of the kids cast of Movies to Musicals.

The pair, who are both 14, will appear on stage alongside BBC Celebrity Masterchef winner and Eastenders star, John Partridge, Les Miserables and Light in the Piazza’s Rob Houchen and Jade Davies, as well as a full live orchestra.

St Andrew’s Academy pupil Mia has attended Gillian Anderson’s School of Dance in Barrhead since she was just two. She was part of the cast in 2019 and 2020 and is delighted to be taking part again.

She said: “I have been lucky enough to be part of the Movies to Musicals kids cast since 2019 and have developed so much over the years. They have been giving me the opportunity to perform on a professional platform with West End stars and work with fantastic choreographers.

“I really enjoy working with my fellow kids cast members from all over Scotland and have built fantastic friendships. The shows have gone from strength to strength and this years will be the best yet.”

For Paisley teen Brooke, who’s danced since she was six, the 2022 show will be her second time taking part in the extravaganza.

She said: “I joined Movies to Musicals last year and have had a great experience so far. Everyone has been really welcoming and I have made some friends for life.

“I love performing, and to be able to share the stage with some amazing West End Stars is a dream come true. I am grateful for the opportunities that being a member of the kids cast brings.”

The kids cast get together for a weekend of training and rehearsals at Ardentinny which both girls are looking forward to.

They’ll be performing numbers from Legally Blonde, Grease, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, School of Rock, Miss Saigon and Les Miserables among others.

Mia’s proud mum Linda has sold 17 tickets to friends and family who are all looking forward to seeing her on stage.

She said: “Mia is getting more into musical theatre and she really likes the fact she gets the opportunity to perform with West End stars and different kids from all over Scotland.

“She’s made really good friendships with people she’d never have met if she hadn’t done this. It’s a brilliant show, really professional.

“It’s amazing how it all comes together.”

The show is put on by the charity, Glasgow Philharmonia SCIO and produced by Ross Gunning. It had a run of six sell-out shows at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and the latest production is being staged at Dunfermline’s Alhambra Theatre on the weekend of March 12 and 13.

Glasgow Philharmonia SCIO acknowledges the support and sponsorship by many who have made the concert possible.
