Talented Paisley dancer has eyes set on The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

A talented Paisley dancer is taking part in The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and says she is "truly excited" about being involved in the global event.

The famous gathering starts on Friday, August 5 and runs to Saturday, August 27.

And Tia Corrigan, 19 - who has been dancing since she was only two years old - will be in the thick of it.

Tia said: "I’m delighted to have been chosen as an Edinburgh tattoo dancer for this wonderful event, which people from all over the world attended.

"My love of dance so far has given me so many opportunities to entertain people from all over the globe and I’m truly excited to be taking part."

She is part of the fourth generation in her family to love the power and gracefulness of dancing.

Her mum Lyndsay said: “My gran danced and while my granddad was in the war she slept in underground during the blitz.

“My mum, Christine Aitken, has been teaching dancing in Paisley for 60 years and she still teaches in the Wynd Centre in Paisley doing highland only. She did tap, ballet, jazz, modern and freestyle. So, she did a lot.

“Then I started dancing and that is how my daughter got into it.”

Tia attended the McKechnie School of Dance and Performing Arts, in Grangemouth, until the age of 11 and she also attended the Dance School in Knightswood, where she trained from first year to sixth year after a successful audition.

Tia is now training at the prestigious Bird College for Dance and Musical Theatre, in London, where she will train for three years where her course has been fully-funded.

The gifted dancer worked hard to dance at the popular The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, especially when the pandemic hit.

Lyndsay explained: “In 2019, she went to Düsseldorf after she was asked by the dance director to perform there and then she went to Australia the same year, but in October. She then auditioned for the 2020 Tattoo - which was obviously cancelled.

“It was then cancelled again last year too. She had an audition every year to get in and she did it again and she got in.”

Tia, who also does Highland dancing, has other great achievements under her belt. She danced at the Platinum Jubilee at the Windsor Horse Show in May.

The superstar is looking to dance on cruise ships in the future or to dance in the West End in London.

Tia has found her family has been extremely supportive of her and appreciates everything that they do for her.

She added: "I would also like to thank my family for all their love and support given to me so far in my chosen career of dance and musical theatre."
