'Taken for a ride' - Kevin Campbell slams Everton board after nightmare transfer window

Kevin Campbell has criticised Everton's disastrous January transfer window, which saw the club end the month in a worse position than before it began.

The Blues parted ways with Anthony Gordon after securing a £40m upfront fee for the 21-year-old. Gordon himself even urged his former club to 'reinvest' this money to 'stay in the Premier League', though no new faces passed through the Finch Farm entrance on deadline day.

This ensured Everton ended the window having failed to bring a single player to the club, despite sides around them in the table strengthening. Farhad Moshiri had promised fans the signing of a striker during an interview earlier this month, leaving supporters all the more annoyed come 11pm yesterday evening.

Also frustrated by the Blues' lack of action at a time of need, Campbell delivered a ruthless verdict regarding the clear lack of planning to address problems within the first-team. "I don’t want to go in on the board, but I am," the former Goodison Park favourite said on Sky Sports on Tuesday night.

"The new manager has come in, you would expect them to get him some players that he wants in. It looks really poor what’s happening right now and the Everton fans aren’t having it – they know they are being taken for a ride. There’s already a big split between the Everton fans and the board, and there’s a lot of pressure on Sean Dyche to get this right. If he isn’t given the tools, this is even more difficult.”

New boss Dyche now faces an uphill battle to keep the Blues afloat this season, but Campbell is of the view the former Burnley manager has what it takes to steady the ship. “I think he will [keep them up] and I particularly mention [Sean] Dyche and [Ian] Woan and [Steve] Stone," expressed the 52-year-old. "These guys have got major experience and I think they will galvanise the club. There is still a lot of talent in the Everton squad, but they have to find goals from somewhere now.”
