Mikel Arteta is set to strengthen Arsenal's defence, midfield and attack this summer, with the Spaniard keen on bolstering squad depth and overall quality ahead of a 2022/23 campaign which includes European football.
When asked if he expects it to be another busy transfer window this year, Arteta said: "I am expecting so, yes. I think both competitions (the Champions League and Europa League) require a much larger squad because the amount of games you play is much bigger in both, so I don’t think (which one you qualify for) makes a lot of difference or changes a lot."
New forwards will no doubt come in to replace the currently departing Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, while uncertainty over Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny's futures means central midfield options are also being considered. The backline is another area of concern for Arteta following injury setbacks to both Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu this season, meaning second-choice options have been called upon more than anticipated.
