Arsenal were handed a huge blow yesterday as a club statement revealed that Takehiro Tomiyasu's recent injury will rule him out for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.
Tomiyasu was withdrawn in the opening exchanges of last week's Europa League fixture against Sporting CP after appearing to twist his knee when attempting to make a tackle. "Following his substitution during last Thursday’s Europa League match, subsequent assessments have confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu sustained a significant injury to his right knee", the statement read.
"Tomi has had successful surgery in London on Tuesday and will be ruled out for the remainder of this season. Everyone at the club will now be working hard with Tomi, so he can join pre-season training ahead of next season."

Now, medical expert Dr Rajpal Brar, DPT has given an update on his YouTube channel regarding the Japanese international, confirming that his injury is similar to the one striker Gabriel Jesus sustained during Brazil's World Cup campaign back in November 2022. Speaking on Tomiyasu, Brar said: "Based on the mechanism of injury with his right knee dropping inwards (aka valgus stress), this is most likely an injury to the medial collateral ligament (MCL).
"Further, the club reported today that Tomi underwent surgery which means he likely had a grade three tear/rupture - the same injury that Gabriel Jesus had." The former Manchester City forward took a little under four months before returning to action as a substitute against Fulham the weekend before last.
If Tomiyasu's rehabilitation were to have a similar timeline, he would be back in full training sometime in late June or early July.
