Take That fans told not to sing along to Greatest Days musical at Bristol Hippodrome

Bristol theatre bosses fear audience members may be tempted to sing along during performances of the Take That musical, and have asked that the singing be left to the professionals.

The warning came weeks before a performance of The Bodyguard had to be scrapped in Manchester due to people singing in the crowd singing and shouting over the cast.

There were reports of a ‘mini riot’ among those watching at Manchester's Palace Theatre which eventually led to the show being abandoned and police called in.

Greatest Days, previously titled The Band, is set to hit the Hippodrome for a week this September. It promises “more than 15 record-breaking Take That songs, alongside a heart-warming and hilarious story of love, loss and laughter”.

However, the popularity of the boyband’s hits such as Patience and A Million Love Songs has led to concerns it could descend into a mass singalong rather than a stage show.

A spokesperson for the Hippodrome said: “We politely ask that you show consideration to your fellow audience members by ensuring the professionals on stage are the only people entertaining us with their performances.”

The musical, by Tim Firth, follows five boy band obsessives from the 1990s, who reunite more than 20 years later to see their heartthrobs for a final time.

Tickets are now on sale.
