Take Me Out contestant reveals 'very strict' rules they had to follow

A former Take Me Out contestant has revealed what it was really like to be part of the ITV dating show.

Although the popular series was cancelled in 2019, at one point in time it was arguably one of the most popular dating shows around.

Each week we got to see host Paddy McGuiness stand alongside 30 women, all eager to find 'the one' and jet off on a sunny holiday to Fernandos, which in reality was Tenerife.

One man would reveal himself as he came down from the 'love lift' before trying to sell himself to the single ladies.

But if the guy wasn't to their liking then the women would switch their lights off. If the men didn't get a blackout then they'd have to pick between one of the remaining women of their choice.

Although it provided great entertainment for nine years, what was it really like being part of the show?

Both Bonnie Stainer and Adam Ryan sat down with the Metro in 2021 to reveal some behind the scenes secrets during their time on Take Me Out.

Bonnie, who was one of the 30 girls in the line-up, applied for the show back in 2017.

She was told she'd have to take a few weeks off from work to film and lived together with all the other women that would be on the show.

Speaking about her time in the house, she admitted they became a 'close-knit' group as she spent a lot of time with them.

During filming, the girls would shoot one episode a day which was 'really really long'.

Bonnie said: "We would start at like seven o’clock in the morning, we’d all be taken on a bus or we’d all go and have breakfast together in the hotel, which was carnage.

"We would turn up to the studios in Maidstone and have our hair and makeup done for like hours."

Due to episodes taking a whole day to film, the women would end up filming for a couple of days in a row before having time off.

Bonnie continued: "We were allowed to just kind of hang out but we were under very strict rules, you know, and told not to get drunk and not to kind of get in any trouble.

"It would all start again after a day off and we’re doing another episode."

The former contestant was there for eight days as she was one of the women chosen by the single lad.

However, despite potentially being away from home for weeks, contestants weren't able to tell people where they were.

Bonnie said: "We weren’t allowed to tell anybody why we were there, although I feel like it was fairly obvious."

Adam Ryan was on the show in 2016 where he met his future wife Beckie, but he chose another woman to take to Fernandos.

He confirmed that the guys that come down the chute don't get to see any of the 30 girls beforehand.

When he jetted to the sunny Spanish island with the woman he picked called Laura, he explained that you're out there the at the same time as the other matched couple from your episode.

He said: "You can get to know other people on dates if you like."

But it seems as though getting to know your date is a little tricky with the cameras there.

Adam continued: "When you’re on camera talking, because there’s a camera, you’re not natural. So when they go 'cut!', you try and talk to the person you’re on a date with.

"Producers stop you, because they don’t want you to get to know each other too well off camera."

He revealed that the conversations off camera were 'much better' than what viewers saw on screen.
