Take a tour of one of Nottingham's best pub crawls

Nottingham has no shortage of excellent pubs and restaurants dotted throughout the city. When it comes to a decent pub crawl, Derby Road is making a comeback thanks to a series of new pubs, bars and restaurants that now call the area home.

There are plenty of places to choose from including the Mist Rolling Inn, the Whistle and Flute, Little Brickhouse and the Rose and Crown. However, where to start and what to watch out for?

We've rounded up our pick of the places, hidden treats to watch out for and also the best route to take to make sure you get a chance to take it all in. Grab your most comfortable walking shoes and let's begin.

The Mist Rolling Inn

The Mist Rolling Inn is a great first stop on your tour of Derby Road as it's a micropub with an excellent selection of real ales, ciders and lagers. The pub may be tiny but it's big on warm welcomes and chats, making it a perfect first place to get a round in.

The Whistle and Flute

The Whistle and Flute is one of the newer pubs on Derby Road and it hides a secret underneath the ground floor. The pub is built on a cave which houses a secret bar below the streets.

If you are very lucky then you might be able to catch live music, football or even a burlesque show in the caves or bar. Failing that, the pub is a great spot for people-watching while you sip a pint or two.

Raglan Road

Raglan Road is a good place to pop into as it has a lively atmosphere and is, as they say, good craic. The Irish bar has a loyal clientele including many of Nottingham's Irish community who rely on the pub for a pint of Guinness and a home away from home.

If you plan your visit ahead of time then you may catch a traditional or folk session here, too, as the pub has a lot of live music events. It's also a great place to catch a rugby match.

Little Brickhouse

Little Brickhouse is a bit of a gem on the Derby Road pub crawl. It's more of a bistro than a pub but it has an excellent natural wine selection and the food is incredible, too, so we had to include it.

The cooking aside for a minute, the community that has sprung up around the cafe is one of the best reasons to check it out as it can often feel a bit like the friends you didn't know you needed but hadn't met yet. The friendly and relaxed atmosphere makes this one to stop off at on your drinking crawl or one to end the night in.

John Borlaise Warren

At the top of the hill, the John Borlaise Warren is known for its wide selection of drinks, absolute sun trap of a beer garden and and excellent pub quiz.

It's here that you might stop for a bite to eat as the pub does offer pizzas which are excellent soakage if you've made it this far up the hill. Our favourite is the 'De Niro' which combines tomato sauce, mozzarella, roast beef, gherkins and American mustard.

The Three Wheatsheaf

Derby Road is quite a long stretch but there are some pubs further down if you are willing to make the trek towards the university. The bar has a large beer garden complete which is popular with the local students.

The pub has been on Derby Road for some time as the front part of the building was historically a farmhouse, which dates back to 1670. There is often live music and events.

Rose and Crown

The Rose and Crown is a lovely place to maybe finish your evening after you've made your way along Derby Road. It has recently had a huge refurbishment which has made it a lovely place to grab a quick bite to eat or that final pint.

The friendly staff are another reason to stop by as the pub has a warm welcome for everyone. This includes four-legged friends as there is a doggie drinking station on standby. As it's a Greene King pub, expect pub classic foods including lasagna, mac and cheese along with vegan or veggie options.
