Ahead of the 2024 NBA trade deadline, the Boston Celtics struck a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, landing defensive big man Xavier Tillman. The 25-year old should add a bit of toughness to Boston’s bench, and brings a bit of postseason experience as well.
Following the trade, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla spoke about the defensive versatility Tillman offers. He’s a solid rebounder and can hold his own against some of the best bigs in the league. On the other side of the ball, Tillman has the speed and athleticism to make powerful plays around the rim, though scoring is not his calling card. Regardless, he’s a welcome addition to an already deep Celtics roster.
