Taiwo Awoniyi reveals Liverpool messages after Nottingham Forest heroics

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi says he was thrilled to score against Liverpool last season - and revealed how he received goodwill messages from the Anfield giants after his goalscoring heroics.

Awoniyi scored the only goal of the game against his former club in October last year in what was one of the Reds' most impressive performances of the season under Steve Cooper.

It was a sweet day for the striker at the City Ground as he bagged three priceless points against the club he spent six years at before moving to Union Berlin in Germany in 2021.

And speaking to Eagles Tracker about that victory where he grabbed the headlines, the Forest striker says Liverpool staff were delighted to see him doing so well.

"One of the best things that happened to me was signing for Liverpool," he said.

"Not only because they are Liverpool but because of the people that work there.

"For me they are nice people. The day I signed for Nottingham Forest and even the day I signed for Union Berlin, I am no longer a Liverpool player. That is me.

"Playing against Liverpool, I see them as my opponent. And that day the only thing in my head is for us to win and for me to score.

"That's how I see the game. I was happy to score against them. The good thing is that almost everyone in the club messaged me how happy they are for me and for my development.

"It was after the game. That's Liverpool for you. They are quite nice people."
