Tadej Pogacar makes Tour de France statement with dominant stage win to reclaim yellow jersey

  • Tadej Pogacar secured a commanding victory on stage six of the Tour de France , reclaiming the yellow jersey after a powerful attack on the iconic Tourmalet climb in the Pyrenees.
  • Pogacar launched his decisive move with just over four kilometres remaining on the 17-kilometre ascent, riding clear of his main rival, Jonas Vingegaard, and extending his lead on the descent and final climb into Gavarnie-Gedre.
  • The UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider finished the stage two minutes 38 seconds ahead of Vingegaard, marking the 17th time the pair have secured the top two positions in a Tour stage.
  • This victory allowed Pogacar to open up a significant advantage in the general classification, having started the day on the same time as Vingegaard, while Torstein Traeen, who had held the yellow jersey, was distanced early on the Tourmalet.
  • Pogacar's team-mate Isaac del Toro now sits third overall, three minutes 27 seconds behind, with Remco Evenepoel in fourth, a further three seconds back, as Vingegaard expressed confidence in his ability to recover despite the setback.
