Taco Bell Puts an Old Favorite Back on Its Menu (But With a New Name)

Taco Bell is at it again, making changes to its menu.

The Yum! Brands (YUM) fast-food chain has found inventive ways to bring new tastes and flavors to its menu on a regular basis. Taco Bell added fries, which the chain dubbed Nacho Fries, offering nacho sauce for dipping the seasoned fries. You don't think about fries with  Mexican food, but add the word nacho to it with some cheese and all of a sudden, it's not that far of a stretch.

Taco Bell most recently announced a limited return of Chicken Wings. When most people think about chicken wings, Taco Bell isn’t in the same sentence, but here it is again. When the restaurant chain introduced chicken wings to its customers, it found a way to spice it up to keep with the tradition of its menu. The wings were doused in queso seasoning and served up with spicy ranch for dipping.

Taco Bell’s decision to bring back the chicken wings at a time when the sports world is craving them for the NFL's big game is not by chance. Football and chicken wings go together almost like peanut butter and jelly, so bringing the wings back just in time for the NFL Playoffs and Championship games gives Taco Bell a unique opportunity to bring in some customers that may want tacos, burritos and wings all at one stop.

Taco Bell Adds Crispy Melt Taco

The taco, formerly known as the Cantina Crispy Melt Taco, was removed from the menu over a year but is coming back as just the Crispy Melt Taco. The change in name isn’t much other than it rolls off the tongue easier.

The Crispy Melt Taco still comes on a fresh fried white corn shell, with layers from the bottom up of melted nacho cheese, a combination of melted cheddar, mozzarella and Monterey Jack cheeses. Then you have a choice to make it vegetarian with black beans, or not, and have it with the seasoned beef. The Crispy Melt Taco is then topped with shredded lettuce, more shredded cheese, diced tomatoes and reduced fat sour cream. No wonder it's called the Melt taco with so many different cheeses on it.

Taco Bell Offers Free Gift

If you aren’t so sure about trying the black beans over the seasoned beef, you can try it for free, as Taco Bell is running a special where if you order $10 or more through the Taco Bell app you get a free Crispy Melt Taco with black beans until Feb. 15. Sadly, the special is not available on delivery orders.

The Crispy Melt Taco is only available at participating locations. If you aren’t sure if the fast-food restaurant near you is serving them up, download the app, and see if it's on the menu. The average price of the Crispy Melt Taco is $2.49, but it may vary by location.

Following Taco Bell's tweet that it was returning the taco formerly known as the Cantina Crispy Melt Taco, it spawned customer responses of excitement as well as customers making other requests for their favorite menu items to make a return as well. Taco Bell keeps its menu fresh with changes by engaging its customer base to discover what they 'Crave.'
