Broncos Wire recently conducted an exclusive interview with former Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward. This is the first part of a three-part series.
In this installment, Ward talks about what an honor it was to be named as a top-100 Denver Broncos player of all time. Ward was named to the honor alongside 47 offensive players, 45 other defensive players and seven special-teams players in 2019.
What does it mean to you to be named as one of the top-100 Denver Broncos of all time?
Ward: Man, it was an honor. Honestly, just to get the gift
[a commemorative game ball] in the mail, totally unaware of what it was. I didn’t even realize it was a top 100 list. I guess they just started doing it. But, just an honor. You know, so many great players have played for this organization, you know, and it’s one of the early organizations so it’s been around the longest so that just tells you how many players have been a part of the Broncos team. Between the Super Bowl teams and even just the AFC championship teams, it’s just an honor to be named amongst those guys.
To be named along with Steve Atwater -- to be put in that kind of caliber, what did it mean to you just for the Broncos, aside from the other teams that you have played with throughout your career?
Ward: You know, it’s special. We did a special thing when I was with that team; we won a Super Bowl so at the end of the day, that can never be taken. There’s a bunch of guys on that team that could have been named on that list as well. I’m not exactly sure who exactly did get named, but we have plenty of guys that contributed. We are top 100 caliber players so just to be picking from those guys just on my team alone is very special to me.
Stay tuned in the coming days for two more parts of this interview.
