Customers in a popular Cork city centre restaurant were quick to intervene late on Monday night when a man with a syringe began to threaten a staff member.
It is understood that the unnamed man entered the well-known restaurant at approximately 11pm last night, when he was allegedly seen attempting to steal a phone which belonged to an employee from a table.
As members of staff attempted to move the unwanted intruder from the establishment, Cork Beo has reported that he began brandishing a syringe and subsequently shouted threats at members of the staff, including claims that he was HIV-positive.

However, quick-thinking staff and customers jumped into action and stepped in to help resolve the situation. Two young men who were eating at the unnamed restaurant overpowered the man and got him to the ground.
Another staff member, a young woman, also managed to kick away the syringe from the unwelcome intruder while the two customers held the man down. It's understood that no injuries were sustained by either customers or staff.
A call was then made to 999 and Gardaì were very quickly on the scene to make the arrest.
A Garda spokesperson told Cork Beo on Tuesday morning: "Gardaí have arrested a man in his 30s following a robbery at a restaurant on North Main Street, Cork City, at approximately 11pm last night, Monday 30.
“He is currently detained at Bridewell Garda station. Investigations are ongoing."
