Sylvester Stallone has paid tribute to his “dear friend” and Rocky co-star Burt Young following his death aged 83.
The Oscar-nominated star’s death on October 8 in Los Angeles was confirmed by his daughter, Anne Morea Steingieser, to the New York Times.
Young rose to stardom alongside the 77-year-old playing Paulie Pennino in six of the Rocky films.
Remembering his pal, Stallone posted a black-and-white snap with Young on set of the boxing film franchise to his Instagram.
Writing alongside the tribute, he shared: “To my dear friend, Burt Young, you were an incredible man and artist, I and the world will miss you very much… RIP.”
Stallone’s post was inundated with condolences as fans commented heartfelt messages in their droves, with one notably writing: “Oh my gosh I just found out.
“I’m sorry to hear to this. It’s so sad. Rest In Peace Burt.”
“RIP Paulie! An amazing actor. You will be missed Burt!” another shared.
A third commented: “This is such sad news. I had the great honor of meeting him briefly here in Philly, he was the kindest man.
“Rest in peace, Burt. My kids and I will always cherish the joy you brought to our lives.”
Young made his on-screen debut in 1969 when he appeared in an episode of The Doctors, which was the beginning of a long TV and film career.
The late star’s acting credits include The Sopranos, M*A*S*H*, Walker, Texas Ranger, Miami Vice, Law & Order and the Rodney Dangerfield comedy Back to School.
Young was also nominated for best supporting actor at the 1977 Oscars for his role in Rocky, which went on to win three Academy Awards that night.
