Sylvester Stallone's Palm Beach Living Room is Color Drenched in This Controversial Shade – it's Daring, But Somehow, it Works

Sylvester Stallone.

If you're looking to inject some energy (and glamor) into your home, gold is a brilliant choice. It's a timeless accent color, of course, and an uplifting addition to any space – but it's most often used with restraint.

It's safe to say, then, that spaces like Sylvester Stallone's dazzling Palm Beach living room will always feel a little controversial. It's awash with gold tones and glittering textures: designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard cloaked the walls in a custom De Gournay mural, while a metallic rug and a set of saffron-colored bouclé armchairs crown the center of the room.

While I might not be able to bring such maximalist living room ideas to life in my small apartment, I can certainly channel Sylvester's look: I've got my eye on everything from CB2's smoked amber bouclé pillow cover to a roll of mercury metallic wallpaper from Wayfair.

Recreate Sylvester Stallone's Glamorous Gold Living Room

'As you may know, I love the glow of gold,' wrote Martyn in an Instagram post last summer. 'The Palm Beach home of Sylvester Stallone and Jennifer Flavin Stallone gave me the perfect canvas to indulge. Everywhere you turn, there’s a moment that reflects light.'

I'd say that a sense of indulgence perfectly defines this living room, starting with its breath-taking mural. Combining botanical motifs with undulating patterns and even dashes of cheetah print, it's a sight to behold. Sunlight practically sets it ablaze – and since the gold tone spreads right across the ceiling, the entire room feels positively radiant.

While the lustrous walls are, naturally, the star of the show, I'm just as taken by the armchairs – and I think they'd make the perfect addition to a more pared-back scheme. Gold can easily be incorporated through light fittings and decor pieces, but it will always make a statement when introduced using upholstery.

Admittedly, these chairs don't exactly seem pared-back – the deep saffron hue can be tricky to style, and the bouclé adds even more dimension to the space. Paired with the wall mural and geometric rug, however, they invite a sense of softness that's perhaps unexpected. Gold elements can risk feeling cold or imposing, but this space is wonderfully inviting.

There's no doubt that Sylvester's living room was designed with Palm Beach glamor in mind, and I love the '70s-inspired details. The geometric rug is a dramatic talking point that ties the entire space together, boasting more earthy hues which pop up in other pieces like the mirror and dining table.

I might not usually gravitate toward schemes as lavish as this one, but it balances sophistication with a genuine sense of comfort. It's a reminder that even the most opulent materials can make a room feel welcoming.

Gold is a brave choice, but designers say that layered metallic palettes like this one will gain plenty of traction this year.

'Metallic finishes always play an important role in a room, but there are more ways than people think to incorporate them,' says Jen Baxter, Founder of Baxter Hill Interiors.

'In 2026, people are looking for more interesting compositions. Textured finishes like burnished and antiqued gold can give a room more dimension as they reflect light differently – and this is especially helpful in rooms with more uniform color palettes.'

As Sylvester's living room demonstrates, metallic spaces can be brought to life using a careful combination of materials and finishes. The result here is, without doubt, a feeling of luxury, but also a sense of personality and intention. What's not to love about a daring design scheme, after all?
