Sydney Sweeney addresses Glen Powell dating speculation: ‘That’s what people want!’

Sydney Sweeney has addressed speculation about her dating her Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell.

The White Lotus actor stars opposite Powell, who recently appeared in Top Gun: Maverick, in the forthcoming romantic comedy directed and co-written by Will Gluck.

During production and later amid early promo for the movie, photos and videos of the pair interacting sent fans into a frenzy, leading them to speculate whether they were romantically involved.

Then in April, Powell’s then-girlfriend, Gigi Paris, added to fuel to the speculation when she unfollowed the actors on social media and posted a cryptic Instagram post.

At the time, the model appeared to confirm reports that she and Powell had broken up when she shared a video of herself walking down the street with the caption: “Know your worth and onto the next.”

Meanwhile, the Euphoria star is currently engaged to Chicago-based businessman Jonathan Davino, and was seen publicly with him in May.

Now in a new interview, the 25-year-old hit back at reports and insisted that any romantic chemistry between her and Powell was for the film.

She told Variety: “It’s a romcom. That’s what people want! Glen and I don’t really care. We have so much fun together, and we respect each other so much; he’s such a hard worker, and I’m a hard worker.

“We’re excited for the press tour, and I literally just left ADR [automated dialogue replacement] with him. We talk all the time like, ‘That’s really funny.’”

She said of the media furore surrounding their relationship: “They want it. It’s fun to give it to ‘em.”

While the upcoming film’s director Gluck remarked: “Sydney is brilliant at a lot of things, including how to deal with social media; she didn’t emotionally internalise it. It was crazy, but after a while it became normal.”
