Sydney Airport is set to hold a major event in a bid to recruit thousands of workers after worker shortages caused chaos and delays during recent holiday peaks.
The jobs fair will aim to secure up to 5000 workers across a wide range of skill sets to work for Sydney Airport and dozens of its partners on Thursday.
Roles are available for the airlines, government agencies, in baggage handling, security, ground services transport and construction and in hospitality and retail.
It comes after long airport queues caused frustration over the recent Queen's Birthday and Easter holiday periods, with domestic travellers told to arrive two hours before departure.
Over the recent Queen's Birthday long weekend, queues began to build about 5am.
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet said staff shortages had impacted airport queues, stressing this was felt "right across the country".
The Transport Workers' Union (TWU) says a recent increase to minimum rates for aviation workers was a good first step but the worker shortage was caused by structural issues.
"There's not a worker shortage in aviation, there's a shortage of good, secure and decent jobs," National Secretary of the TWU Michael Kaine said.
He said those structures had allowed airport corporations and airlines to accumulate power against the interests of workers and passengers.
"Until industry leaders and policymakers recognise this fundamental truth, we should buckle in for the chaos we've seen during peak travel times - including the upcoming July school holidays - to continue.
"Workers and passengers are being left behind.
"Skilled workers are leaving the industry in droves because working and safety conditions have never been lower."
Candidates seeking a new role can arrive at the T1 International Terminal where more than 40 of the businesses operating at Sydney Airport will hold meetings from 10am through to 4pm.
