Switzerland super-subs seal crucial World Cup win over Bosnia

  • Switzerland picked up their first win of the 2026 World Cup by beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1 on Thursday.
  • Switzerland drew their opening game at the tournament with Qatar, while Bosnia were held to a draw by co-hosts Canada.
  • Thursday’s match was tightly-contested for long periods until Switzerland substitute Johan Manzambi fired his side in front with a powerful volley in the 74th minute.
  • Bosnia were then reduced to 10 men six minutes later when Tarik Muharemovic was sent off for a last-man challenge, and Switzerland took advantage as another substitute, Ruben Vargas, doubled his side’s lead before Manzambi scored his second of the game.
  • Bosnia pulled a goal back through a fine volley from Ermin Mahmic, but a Granit Xhaka penalty deep into added time sealed a comprehensive Switzerland win.
