Switch 2 won't increase $450 price tag due to ongoing RAM shortage according to Nintendo president – for now, at least

Holding the Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo fans still hoping to snag a Switch 2 don't need to worry about a rise in price due to the ongoing RAM shortage just yet – or, at least, that's what a recent statement from company lead Shuntaro Furukawa would imply.

Furukawa, who is the current sitting president of Nintendo, seemingly reveals as much during a recent Q&A session (machine translated by DeepL) following a company financial call. When asked what the impact of rising component prices (specifically those related to memory) has on the profitability of the Switch 2 and the likelihood that the console's price will go up to make up for any losses, he explains that the situation is stable enough – for now, anyway.

According to the president, Nintendo is engaging in discussions with business partners to ensure a stable supply of necessary components for its hardware. Thanks to these maintained relationships, the RAM shortage hasn't significantly impacted the profitability of the Switch 2.

Furukawa expects the situation to remain largely the same throughout the next financial quarter, too – but that doesn't mean Nintendo isn't ready to adjust prices should it need to. He clarifies that if the surge in component prices persists beyond Nintendo's expectations, the company will have to reassess the situation – and, yes, this might perhaps mean adjusting numbers a bit.

For now, though, he confirms that no decisions have been made about future price tweaks for the Switch 2. Nintendo will determine these (should there ever be any) after considering profitability, market conditions, and sales trends overall.

It's certainly reassuring to hear, especially seeing as the Switch 2 isn't exactly cheap as it is now, sitting at a hefty $449.99 price tag (with no games included), but the last part of the president's response does beg the question of whether or not we'll ever see that number go up. Memory prices are still all over the place, unfortunately, so only time will truly tell. Here's hoping that it all settles, however.

Need something to wishlist? Here are some of the most exciting upcoming Switch 2 games to look forward to, if so.
