A person is missing in the River Mersey after going swimming in New Brighto n on the hottest day on record.
Emergency services have been searching the water, off the Wirral coast, for more than eight hours after reports a person had gone missing. The search was launched when another swimmer was able to make it back to shore safely and raised the alarm.
A spokesperson for the RNLI said that a lifeboat and hovercraft was sent out as part of the search. The coastguard has confirmed that the search is ongoing, as the person has not yet been found.
