Swiggy suspends operations of Supr Daily in 5 cities

NEW DELHI: Swiggy has decided to scale down operations of Supr Daily -- a subscription-based delivery service for delivering daily essentials.

Services will be rolled back in 5 cities -- Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai, the company said in a blog post.

However, it will continue to be operative in Bengaluru.

"We are announcing our decision to scale down operations of Supr Daily and restructure ourselves to help hit our business-market fit goals," Phani Kishan Addepalli co-founder, Swiggy & CEO, Supr Daily told employees via an email.

"We have a detailed transition and closure plan in place to make it less painful for our users as well as brand and vendor partners," he added.

Swiggy acquired Supr Daily in mid-2018 when it was serving close to just 6,000 orders a day in a few suburbs of Mumbai. It marked Swiggy's journey beyond food delivery and into convenience & grocery.

The decision to scale down operations and opt for restructuring was taken as the service is yet to demonstrate profitability.

In the blog post, the company said that it is spending a significant amount of time and money in managing the business - getting distracted from the primary goals of establishing the business market fit.

"As we go into the year, it's important that we organize ourselves in a way that best sets us up to hit our goals," it said.

Assuring assistance for employees, the company said that it has identified relevant roles for a significant majority of the employees within the open requisitions across the broader organisation and expect to place the rest over the next few weeks.

"While we have taken the difficult decision to scale our business down, we continue to be buoyant about the opportunity itself," the blog added.
