The SWI Dumfriesshire Federation Centenary Show took place at the Easterbrook Hall last week.
The hall was filled with an amazing array of excellent pieces of work made by Rural members and a craft fayre was held in the side hall with a superb selection of products to buy.
There was a real wow factor for the people who visited on Friday evening and on Saturday.
There were scones, cakes, biscuits and other baked items to make you salivate. The handcraft section displayed a great range of items made using all sorts of skills in sewing, knitting, crochet and so much more.
It was gratifying to see so many Sanquhar pattern knitted gloves proving that this traditional craft is kept alive. There were many forms of hand stitching work and machine stitching as well as other crafts like book folding. The floral art exhibits were all stunning. There were superb paintings, drawings and photographs and of course jams and jellies were on show.
Members had also knitted wee hats to be donated for premature babies at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary and about 200 of these were given to Mo Smith, Senior Charge Nurse at the Neonatal Ward by president Helen Braid.
Helen then gave the variety of twiddlemuffs that had been made to Linda Hughes, Senior Charge Nurse C4. All were very gratefully received and will be put to good use.
Helen was delighted to introduce National President, Anne Kerr who presented the trophies.
She praised all members for the display of such highly skilled work.
Helen thanked all members who had helped in any way to make such a successful show.
There has been a lot of work done over a number of years but it has paid off. She named joint show secretaries, Jane Hogg and Norma Rae and show treasurer Jean Muir for special thanks for all of the work they had done.
