'Sweetest girl who will steal your heart' looking for retirement home

An elderly dog who is known for her smile is now searching for a home to live out her twilight years.

Miley, more affectionately known as Smiley Miley, is the “sweetest girl who will steal your heart.” The 12-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier hasn’t had the easiest journey so far, but the team at Dogs Trust Merseyside believe she is ready to find a “new relaxing, retirement home.”

Over the weekend, Miley joined a group of other pups from the Huyton-based venue to celebrate Pride by bringing together "dogs and people to celebrate love is love.” The UK’s largest dog welfare charity has been showing its solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community for over two decades now since attending Brighton’s Pride Parade in 2000.

Georgina Lowery, Dogs Trust Merseyside manager said: “We are always so happy to all come together to do our little bit to uplift, celebrate and support the wonderful diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies. After the past couple of years of virtual celebrations, and social distancing, it has been amazing to bring our staff, volunteers and dogs together to spread some joy and love.”

Moving forward the charity is now focusing on rehoming Miley. She would be best suited to being an only pet in the home but can be walked alongside other dogs once she’s been properly introduced. She is able to live with children aged ten and over, however, would be better suited to a quiet life at home. Despite her age, she is said to be still super spritely and enjoys heading out for walks.

Other dogs in attendance at the Pride party who are searching for their “forever homes” include:

Puma

The three-year-old Greyhound is said to be “a calm and relaxed boy, who loves snuggling up in a duvet and watching the world go by.” Puma is extremely sociable and enjoys nothing more than approaching people to say hello - especially if they have his favourite toy with them, a tennis ball.

Puma is “great with other Greyhounds” and prefers his friendships to be exclusive to the same breed as him only. Therefore, he could “happily live” with another Greyhound, however, his potential family might want to “develop his social skills for him to accept other breeds into his circle.” Puma is able to live with children of secondary school age and over.

Belle

Belle attended Dogs Trust Merseyside's Pride Party over the weekend (Dogs Trust Merseyside)

This one-year-old Greyhound is described as a “true beauty with an incredibly gentle soul and a real sweetheart.” Belle previously had the experience of home life and adapted very well to it. She is known for adoring people and “with everyone she meets she is super friendly and very gentle.” However, once excited every once and a while, she may greet you with her paws in the air.

Belle is a social girl, who enjoys hanging out with others, and could happily live alongside another dog. She has always had company and isn't the biggest fan of being alone. She is hoping for a “patient family who gives her time to settle into her new home.” She can live with children aged ten and over.
