Swedish police have reported that two bodies were discovered in a burnt Danish-registered car in the city of Malmo over the weekend. As of now, the identities of the victims have not been confirmed, and authorities are unable to verify if they are the two British citizens who were reported missing.
The police spokesperson stated that they cannot provide details regarding the age, gender, or nationality of the victims until a forensic examination is completed. The incident, which took place in an industrial area in Malmo, is being investigated as a double murder.
While the British Foreign Office has acknowledged that two British citizens are missing in Sweden, they have not officially linked them to the burnt car case. Despite the car being registered in Denmark, Swedish police have clarified that the victims are not Danish citizens.
Reports suggest that the car, a Toyota RAV4, was rented by a British citizen at Copenhagen airport. Subsequently, the driver and a passenger crossed the Denmark-Sweden border into Malmo before the tragic events unfolded.
The motive behind the alleged shooting remains unclear as authorities continue their investigation into this disturbing incident.
