Swedish International Open joy for Airdrie club as they rack up sensational medals haul

Lanarkshire Karate Academy youngsters were in superb form in Sweden recently after claiming a sensational medal haul and landing the best club award at a top event.

The Airdrie-based club competed at the Swedish International Open earlier this month and came home with 13 gold medals, seven silver and five bronze for their efforts.

With a whopping 25 medals to their name, that also earned LKA the trophy for the best overall club at the event, which included clubs from across Europe.

The medal winners for LKA were as follows:

Gold: Euan Sangster - Boys Kata 10yrs; Luke Ryder - Boys Kata 11yrs; Harrison Carty - Boys Kata 7yrs; Emmie McEwan - Girls Kata 10yrs and Kumite 10yrs; Heather Mackay - Girls Kata 8yrs; Ziva Alexander - Girls Kumite 7yrs; Harrison Carty - Boys Kumite 7yrs; Sebastian Magilton - Boys Kumite 9yrs and Kata 9yrs; Alix Smith - Girls Kumite 11yrs; Heather Mackay - Girls Kumite 8yrs.

Team Gold: Euan, Sebastian, Emmie - Team Kata 10yrs and Team Kata -13yrs:

Silver: Alix Smith - Girls Kata 11yrs; Ziva Alexander - Girls Kata 7yrs: Daniel McPake - Boys Kumite 12yrs; Jayden Warwick - Boys Kumite 9yrs.

Team Silver: Luke, Daniel, Alix - Team Kata -13yrs: Keir, Austin, Jayden - Team Kata 10yrs.

Bronze: Euan Sangster - Boys kumite 10yrs; Luke Ryder - Boys Kumite 11yrs.

Team Bronze: Ziva, Harrison, Heather - Team Kata -13yrs: Keir, Austin, Jayden - Team Kata -13yrs.

Proud Sensei Chantelle Allan said: “A huge well done to all of our athletes on their results.

“It’s a great achievement and it is nice to see all the hard training pay off.

“As always, there’s lots to take away and improve on.

“It was a brilliant trip from start to finish, so much fun, laughs and lots of nice memories were made.

“We are so proud of everyone on team LKA, who were competing against clubs from across Europe.”
