The Kozhikode Corporation has bagged the Swaraj Trophy for the best corporation in the State. Mayor Beena Philip attributed the achievement to timely delivery of services by the team of councillors and officials and the efficiency of the civic body.
She told the media here that the corporation could spend more than 80% of the annual project implementation for the year 2020-21. Besides, it spent 100% of the maintenance grant for roads and 94.78% of funds allocated to Scheduled Castes, she added.
The efficiency in collecting taxes, trade licence fees, and labour tax, waste management initiatives, implementation of State-level schemes, steps taken to tackle the pandemic, street light project, publication of citizens’ charter, computerisation of services, modernisation of crematoriums, complaint redressal mechanism, and implementation of the NULM scheme were considered while selecting the corporation for the honour, the Mayor said.
