Swansea City v Middlesbrough player ratings as defenders found wanting in second half

ANDY FISHER 5

Routine save to gather Riley McGree's curling effort on the stroke of half-time. Did the rest of his work relatively well in tricky conditions. In truth, not much he could do about the goals.

BEN CABANGO 6

Made so many defensive interventions including a number of clearances and battled ever so hard in his tussle with Ryan Giles on Swansea's right. But found the going tougher in the second-half.

NATHAN WOOD 5

Made a number of timely clearances and can generally be pleased with his efforts in possession too. As with others, struggled at times in the second-half though, as evidenced by a shirt pull in the build-up to a chance for Akpom.

JOEL LATIBEAUDIERE 4

Got away with a loose pass early on but defended well for spells after that. Had a poor second-half though, so easily being beaten by Chuba Akpom before committing a daft foul to concede a penalty. Sloppiness on the ball crept in too.

MATTY SORINOLA 5

Played a role in Swansea's opener but didn't have much of an impact in attack after that as Middlesbrough saw plenty of the ball. Tracked back well though to support those behind him. Quiet second-half and subbed late on.

JAY FULTON 6

Made a number of clearances and was pivotal to his side's effort of limiting the array of attacking talents in Boro's squad for long spells. Happy to leave one in on certain players and fully demonstrated his grit with a solid display. Unlucky not to have a goal to his name too.

MATT GRIMES 6

Back in the line-up after missing the Luton game through illness, the captain was always slick on the ball and was so pivotal, but his side collapsed, and he often had to play backwards or sideways after having a lack of options.

RYAN MANNING 6

Started well and got the assist for Joel Piroe's opener after trying his luck with a driven shot. Had to do far more defending after that as the visitors had so much of the ball. Had a number of efforts at goal though and made some key passes.

OLLIE COOPER 6

Read play well to intercept but fired wide early on. Was a real livewire and worked tirelessly to track back time and time again when Boro got forward in numbers. Withdrawn at the break though, presumably through injury.

LUKE CUNDLE 6

Played a key role in his side's opener as he stayed patient before finding Manning. Influence waned after the restart.

JOEL PIROE 6

Alert to guide Manning's driven effort into the net after 15 minutes and put in a superb defensive shift, pressing from the front while making his mark in his own box from set plays. Teed up Jamie Paterson before Boro's third. Did as much as he could have done, in fairness.

Subs

Olivier Ntcham (for Cooper) - Really lively after coming on and did some timely defensive work. Played a part in a big chance for Jamie Paterson. But Boro took full control which limited his impact. Looked the most likely to create anything in the second-half. 6

Jamie Paterson (for Cundle) - Had a great chance shortly after coming on but well denied by Zack Steffen. N/A

Morgan Whittaker (for Sorinola) - Too late to make an impact. N/A
