Congreve signs new deal amid Rangers interest
Cameron Congreve has reportedly agreed a new Swansea City deal after the club rejected a loan offer from Scottish giants Rangers.
According to Football Insider, Rangers were keen on taking the 18-year-old for the upcoming season, but he now looks poised to be a part of Russell Martin's first team plans, having impressed during several cameos last term.
The midfielder signed his first professional deal back in March, and made five appearances in the Championship last season.
He's already been tipped for big things by his boss, with Martin declaring back in May: “He has confidence and he is a great player on the ball and he can make things happen because he is a good technician and we love his mentality.
“He is one we are excited about and someone we want to develop with.”
Congreve still had two years to run on his previous deal, but has seemingly been rewarded for his recent progress.
Huddersfield stance on Mooy revealed
Huddersfield Town are not interested in re-signing Aaron Mooy this summer.
That's according to our colleagues at YorkshireLive, who claim the Australian is not on the Terriers' list of targets this summer.
Mooy is a free agent after leaving Chinese side Shanghai Port FC, and has been strongly tipped for a return to English football, with Huddersfield one of the sides credited with an interest.
However, it seems former club Town can, at this stage, be discounted as a possible destination, particularly in light of their recent deal for MK Dons star David Kasumu earlier in the window.
Sources have told WalesOnline that the number of second tier clubs showing an interest in Mooy is in double figures, with Swansea City touted as one of those interested parties.
However, there are already doubts over whether the Swans would have the financial capabilities to complete a move, although the 31-year-old would, in all likelihood, have to accept a pay cut to move back to the Championship regardless.
Cowley plays down Harness absence
Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley says Marcus Harness wasn't included in the pre-season clash Bristol City as a precaution, amid ongoing interest from Swansea City.
Speculation over a move to south Wales was sent into overdrive on Tuesday night when Harness, after initially appearing on the teamsheet for the game against the Robins, was left out of proceedings.
However, Cowley says there's nothing to read into the developments.
Speaking to The News, the Pompey boss said: "He (Harness) trained in the end. I think we had a group that trained.
"It was just a decision that we made for the benefit of Marcus. For us, it was just not to take a risk.
"When you’re in this time of pre-season, there was a few today – Sean would have played had there been a match, Joe would have played had there been a game – but they’ve had a really heavy load and it’s always our aim to err on the side of caution at this time of year.
"The decision (not to play him) was made about 11 o’clock. It was probably… Shaun North [the kitman] would have done our kit and when he left early at 7-7.30am this morning he was in the team at that stage.
"Once we spoke to him this morning, we made that decision."

Martin impressed by Wood
Russell Martin says he's been impressed by the way new signing Nathan Wood has settled into life in SA1.
Wood, Swansea's first signing of the summer window, arrived from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee, and played 77 minutes of the 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night.
Unlike other new arrivals such as Harry Darling and Matthew Sorinola, Wood hasn't yet worked under Martin, but the Swans boss says he's delighted with what he's seen so far.
"Nathan hasn't been with us before," he said. "It's different to what he's done. The last couple of games, I've been so impressed with him in training, his willingness to learn, the amount of time we spent in the analysis suite with them guys, even refreshing Matty [Sorinola] and Harry [Darling] with the unit meetings we have.
"They've all embraced it, they're all willing to learn.
"Nathan, as you've seen tonight, he has some beautiful physical attributes for us in terms of what we look for in a centre half. "
Stoke keen on Celina
Stoke City are reportedly interested in a move for former Swansea City midfielder Bersant Celina.
Celina scored 10 goals and earned 11 assist in 79 games for the Swans before leaving for French side Dijon in 2020.
He spent last season on loan at Ipswich Town, and it seems he may have caught the eye of the Potters, although Turkish side Kasimpasa are also said to be interested.
According to Turkish journalist Ertan Suzgun, the Super Lig outfit have already approached Dijon with an offer for the Kosovan, who still has two years left on his current deal.
Josh Thomas delighted by scoring return
Swansea City Under-21s striker Josh Thomas admits he's delighted to have put a difficult 15-month injury hell behind him after marking his playing return with a goal.
An ankle injury in 2021 saw him miss the entirety of the 2021-22 campaign, but Thomas returned to find the back of the net in a dominant 5-0 pre-season win over Trefelin BGC.
The 19-year-old says he's now eyeing a strong 2022-23 season.
“It’s been almost 18 months I’ve been out for; it’s been a difficult one,” said Thomas.
“Even if I didn’t get a goal, I just wanted to get on and enjoy being back out there because I haven’t played for so long, if I could grab a goal it was just a bonus really.
“It was probably the toughest year-and-a-half to two years of my life, you see everyone else go out for training every day and you’re stopped from doing that by something that wasn’t your fault.
“So scoring was the icing on the cake really. That’s what strikers do, they score goals, for me to get the goal it was just the best way to show that I’m back."
