Swansea City transfer news as West Ham loanee reveals Arsenal inspiration and Sheffield United update emerges

Your latest Swansea City headlines on Friday, September 9.

Oko-Flex reveals Arsenal inspiration

Armstrong Oko-Flex has revealed Freddie Ljungberg played a key role in his development during his time with Arsenal.

The versatile attacker joined the Swans on loan from West Ham United and made his debut for the club in last weekend's 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers. The 20-year-old spent five years in the Gunners' academy before joining Celtic in 2021.

And the Dublin-born star has opened up on the role prominent Arsenal played in his progress at youth level. “Going to Arsenal was huge for me. It was great there,” Oko-Flex told the club website.

“I was a striker and then Freddie Ljungberg recognised that I could be direct and take players on and he felt I could operate on the flank.

“He really changed me and the way I play, and I am very grateful to him for that. He was great, I can also remember us having Thierry Henry take a couple of sessions with us, and Jack Wilshere as well when he was doing his coaching badges.

“So, there were a few ex-players there, and I had Bukayo Saka in my team and he was probably the biggest name that came up with me.”

Fixtures postponed

All Swansea City matches scheduled to take place this weekend have been postponed as a mark of respect to the Queen.

Russell Martin's senior side were due to face Birmingham City at St Andrew's on Saturday afternoon but will now have a rest weekend. They are set to return to action on home soil against Sheffield United on Tuesday night. Kick-off is at 7:45pm.

Fans who purchased tickets for the contest in the Midlands have the option to retain their stub for the rearranged date or they can contact the club's ticket office for a refund.

Meanwhile, the club's Under-18s and Ladies will not play this weekend. The Under-18s were due to face Hull City at Landore on Saturday while the Ladies - who defeated Cardiff Met 2-0 on the opening day of the new campaign last weekend - were set to face Abergavenny on Sunday.

Swansea City Under-21s are set to face Ipswich Town in East Anglia on Monday. You can read the full story on the postponement of the EFL schedule here.

Martin among contenders for Brighton role

Russell Martin is among the contenders to become Brighton's next manager, according to reports.

Former Swansea boss Graham Potter left the Seagulls on Thursday to join Chelsea following Thomas Tuchel's exit from Stamford Bridge. And The Athletic state that Brighton-born Martin is one of four men in the frame to take charge at the Amex Stadium.

They claim Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen is admired by the hierarchy at Brighton while former Swans boss Steve Cooper - now at Nottingham Forest - is also set to be under consideration for the vacancy on the south coast of England.

The other head coach mentioned is Welshman Nathan Jones, current manager of Swansea's Championship rivals Luton Town.
