Swansea City transfer news as Swans to miss out on Celtic-bound midfielder and winger attracting attention

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Monday, July 18.

Mooy closing in on Celtic move

Aaron Mooy is reportedly closing in on a move to Scottish giants Celtic, despite interest from a host of Championship clubs.

It's understood a swathe of second tier sides had taken a look at the Australian international, who's a free agent after leaving Shanghai Port FC.

Swansea City were believed to be one of those interested in the midfielder, but it now seems as though he's heading to the Scottish champions, where he will work alongside his former Australia manager Ange Postecoglou.

According to our colleagues at the Daily Record, Mooy will sign a one-year deal at Parkhead, with the option of an added 12 months.

Pompey in for Garrick

Portsmouth are reportedly eyeing up Swansea City youngster Jordon Garrick as a potential replacement for Marcus Harness.

Despite being on the radar of the Swans earlier in the summer, Harness completed a move to Ipswich Town on Friday night, and Pompey boss Danny Cowley is on the look out for a replacement.

The likes of Liam Walsh and Morgan Whittaker have also been linked with a move to Fratton Park in recent weeks, but according to The News, Garrick is another option under consideration.

All three players are set to be made available this summer as Russell Martin looks to remould his squad ahead of the new season, but there could well be a potential snag.

There's believed to be a perception inside Fratton Park that the trio are all tied down to relatively lucrative deals, which in turn could have a knock-on effect on any financial package needed to bring them on board.

It remains to be seen whether they believe there is any value in bringing any of them on board, or whether they feel they can get better value elsewhere.

Martin will certainly hope the deadlock can be broken soon, as he hopes to raise some further funds. He is still understood to be a keen admirer of Rotherham United's Chiedozie Ogbene, but as things stand a move appears highly unlikely until a departure is confirmed.

Gill insists Swans will be ready to go

Matt Gill says he fully expects Swansea City to hit the ground running when they kick off their Championship campaign against Rotherham United at the end of the month.

The Swans have one final game of their pre-season schedule still to go, with a trip to Charlton Athletic awaiting Russell Martin's side this weekend.

They have already faced Haverfordwest, Colchester, Forest Green Rovers, Plymouth Argyle and Bristol Rovers this summer, with the players also undergoing a week-long training camp at Pennyhill Park in Surrey.

Swans assistant Gill believes the sheer amount of work taking place behind the scenes will stand the team in good stead ahead of the new campaign, and says there's a real buzz around the training ground as Martin and his coaching team prepare to apply the final touches to their summer plans.

“Everyone is very excited already, and you can sense that. That is what pre-season is about, you are building yourself up with that first game in mind,” Gill said.

“We want to be in the best possible shape we can, and I have to say the players have worked tremendously hard.

“We have still got a little way to go, and we will probably taper things down a little over the next two weeks.

“The lads have given it everything they have got, I am sure they will be ready and raring to go.”

Blackpool keen on Williams

Former Swansea City loanee Rhys Williams is reportedly a loan target for Blackpool.

Tangerines boss Michael Appleton has already brought in Lewis Fiorini on loan from Manchester City and, according to Mail Online, is now keen on Williams.

Williams joined Swansea City on loan at the start of last season, but struggled to make an impact under Russell Martin, making just five Championship appearances for the Swans, before being recalled by Liverpool in January.

He has since featured in Liverpool’s pre-season friendlies against Manchester United and Crystal Palace, but now looks set to head back to the Championship once again.
