Swansea City transfer news as Swans miss out on Bayern Munich star and wanted Leeds United man could leave

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Monday, August 29.

Vidovic set to join Vitesse

Bayern Munich youngster Gabriel Vidovic is reportedly set to join Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem on a season-long loan, despite links with Swansea City.

Reports in Germany had suggested the Swans were among a number of sides keen on the 18-year-old attacker, with Bundesliga clubs Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hertha BSC among the others mentioned.

The strength of Swansea's alleged interest isn't clear, although given the level of competition for his signature, landing the teenager was clearly always going to be a big ask.

In any case, German outlet Bild claims Vidovic is now set to head to the Eredivisie, and is believed to have been offered the number 10 shirt at the Dutch side.

Whelan backs Drameh loan exit

Former Leeds United star Noel Whelan says a loan exit may well be best for Cody Drameh's development, amid interest from a host of Championship clubs.

WalesOnline understands that a swathe of clubs in the second tier have shown an interest in taking Drameh on loan this summer, including Swansea City.

Sources in west Yorkshire have previously insisted Drameh is likely to stay at Elland Road this summer, but recent comments by boss Jesse Marsch have seemingly left the door open for an exit, with the American yet to make a decision on where Drameh will play during the 2022-23 season.

Drameh starred in the recent League Cup clash with Barnsley in midweek, and Whelan believes the 20-year-old has now outgrown under-23s football.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: "I think if he’s not going to be used by Jesse Marsch, he may well feel a loan is better for his progression and therefore better for Leeds United.

“There’s no point keeping him around if he’s not playing.

“You get to a point where Under-23 football just isn’t enough any more – and we’ve already seen the likes of Charlie Cresswell going out to the Championship.

“If Marsch is considering another loan, then it’s in Drameh’s best interests – and the best interests of the club, because he could well come back a better player.”

Allen - We need to handle difficult moments

Joe Allen admits Swansea City need to show more resilience in dealing with difficult moments in games after their second-half fightback at Middlesbrough fell short.

Head coach Russell Martin said after the defeat at the Riverside that his team had gone through a “wobble” after conceding the first goal in a disappointing 2-1 defeat, a sentiment shared by the Wales international.

“It's frustrating, it's just in certain moments we let ourselves down and sometimes our reaction to it is a little bit flat,” he told the club's official website.

“We need to keep the belief in games that we can get back into it. The goal knocked our confidence and then conceding the second goal made it that much harder.

“Fair play, into the second half we put the pressure on and got one back, and at that point I think we were all quite confident that we could go on and get that second goal.

“We just needed that one opportunity and unfortunately it didn't quite happen.”

Stoke keen on former Swans star

Swansea City travel to Stoke City in their next game on Wednesday night, in what will be the Potters' first game under new boss Alex Neil.

Neil joined from newly-promoted Sunderland over the weekend, and reports suggest he could be about to turn his attention back to the north east for reinforcements.

According Alan Nixon, Neil is exploring the possibility of bringing former Swans star Federico Fernandez on loan from Newcastle United this summer.

The Argentine defender hasn’t featured for Newcastle since December and has played just twice since Eddie Howe took charge at St James' Park.

Young Swans pick up first win

Swansea City’s Under-21s picked up their first victory of the season as goals from Kyrell Wilson, Tarrelle Whittaker and Ben Lloyd helped them to a 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Goalkeeper Archie Matthews also saved a penalty for the young Swans, who took the lead in the 15th minute after Wilson cut in from the right to fire a low effort into the net.

Whitaker clipped the top of the crossbar just before the break, but doubled the lead early in the second half, curling an effort into the bottom right-hand corner.

Wigan were presented with their best opportunity after Filip Lissah brought down Josh Stones for a penalty, only for Matthews to pull off a superb one-handed save.

And the Swans went on to seal the win late on as Lloyd found the top corner after a cut back from sub Ruben Davies.
