Swansea City transfer news as Stoke City man linked, Jamal Lowe wanted and striker enjoying best time of his career

These are your Swansea City headlines on Monday, August 22

Stoke defender linked

Stoke City defender Morgan Fox has been mentioned as a possible target for Swansea City.

Sunderland and Reading are also in the mix, according to Football League World, with the left-back experienced at both League One and Championship level.

Swansea are in the market for further defensive additions before the September 1 deadline but more specifically in the right wingback role. But a workaround could be to play Matty Sorinola there, with the loan man adept at playing on both flanks of a defensive unit.

Twenty-eight-year-old Fox has been capped by Wales at under-21 level and was named in the senior squad to face Cyprus and Israel in 2015.

Joseph loving loan life

Swansea City Kyle Joseph is settling into life nicely with loan club Oxford United.

The striker has been speaking about his switch to the Kassam Stadium after registering his first goal for the club. Joseph went out on loan last season - to Cheltenham for the first half of the campaign - and head coach Russell Martin revealed he returned early from that spell because he wasn't happy.

The opposite seems to be the case in Oxfordshire this time around.

“I don’t think I’ve enjoyed my football as much as I have here,” Joseph said.

“The club have made me feel so welcome and it’s a credit to the lads for the environment they create. Not getting points on Tuesday (against Lincoln) was difficult, but the lads came in Wednesday, had a chat and got on with it.

“I’m so confident this team will get points and we’ll get up and running in the league.”

Joseph added after his goal against Morecambe: “Two yards out are the best types of goals to score.

“I’ve been a bit suspect in the last two seasons for not being in the positions to get those goals. I’ll take them over 25-yarders any day of the week. It’s good to get off the mark and sets a good foundation for the season to come.

“When I first met the gaffer he said I need to get my numbers up, which took me back a bit to be honest. I 100 per cent agreed with it, because that’s what managers look at.”

Watford leading Lowe race

Bournemouth are willing to let Jamal Lowe leave on loan this summer - with Watford leading the race for the former Swansea City forward.

Football League World report several Championship sides are interested in the striker, who has fallen way down the pecking order on the south coast.

Norwich City, Burnley and Sunderland have also expressed an interest, they claim.

Downes given blunt message

West Ham boss David Moyes says Flynn Downes "needs to do better" if he wants to break into his first-team plans on a regular basis at the London Stadium.

Downes moved from Swansea City to east London this summer in a deal worth up to £14million including add-ons. He has made only two cameo appearances for the Hammers so far in games against Manchester City and Viborg at home.

A toe injury prevented him starting the latter match, but Moyes has revealed the midfielder needs more time and from his early viewings of him, the Scot believes he must up the ante to be involved on a more consistent basis.

The 23-year-old wasn't involved in recent defeats to Nottingham Forest and Brighton, having to make do with a place on the bench. It's been a difficult start for the Londoners, who sit bottom after three straight defeats.

“I think we need to give him a bit of time,” Moyes said on Downes at the weekend. “As I said, he would have played (against Viborg) if it wasn’t for his toe.

“The things I’ve seen of him, he needs to do better and we’re already [working at that] but we’ll get him a game when we can. All the players have to earn it and I have to find a way of winning most of the games.

“If it takes me putting the better players out to win, well I want to win. I’m not putting the boys out just to lose and say ‘I’m giving them a game.’ I want to win the games.”
