Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City news for Thursday, March 16.
Swansea snap up academy starlet
Swansea City have added youngster Jack Fanning to their academy ranks this week.
The Swans confirmed a move for the 16-year-old on Wednesday afternoon, with the capture arriving on the back of a successful week-long trial back in January.
The centre-back had previously been on the books of Southern League Premier Division South side Tiverton Town, and made his senior debut for the non-league outfit against Poole Town back in October - and even found the net.
He could now be poised to make his under-18s debut for the Swans against Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon.
Jack Chapman, head of academy recruitment, said: “We’re pleased to welcome Jack to our academy after a short trial period. He demonstrated that he has leadership qualities, is assertive and dedicated to improving himself. It was evident quite quickly that he had the motivation to return to the professional football club setting after a short time out.
“We look forward to helping Jack develop further as a player and as a young man. He’s moving away from home, settling into a new city and group of peers but we definitely have the staff on hand to make that as smooth a transition as possible so that football can be Jack’s main focus.
"Hopefully he will enjoy his time at the club, grow, develop and make an impact not just in our academy but in the professional game.”
Swansea fined for Luton touchline fracas
Swansea City have been fined £11,000 for their role in the touchline brawl that errupted during the closing stages of the recent 1-0 defeat to Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.
Both benches became involved in a fracas as the game ticked over into injury time, with Swans boss Russell Martin and Luton Town assistant Richie Kyle later dismissed to the stands for their role in the incident.
Martin played down the seriousness of it all when quizzed after the game, as did opposite number Rob Edwards, who confirmed there was no bad blood between the pair.
However, the FA has clearly taken the incident seriously enough to slap a charge on both clubs, as well as Martin and Kyle themselves, although both will escape a touchline ban.
In a statement confirming the news, the FA said: "Luton Town and Swansea City have been fined £13,500 and £11,000 respectively for a mass confrontation that happened at their EFL Championship game on Saturday 4 March.
"Both clubs admitted that they failed to ensure their benches conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 90th minute, and an independent Regulatory Commission imposed their sanctions following a hearing.
"In addition, Russell Martin and Richie Kyle have been fined £2,000 and £1,000. The Swansea City manager and Luton Town assistant manager admitted that their behaviour during the 90th minute was improper, and they accepted the standard penalties."
Cardiff star issues derby-day warning
Ryan Wintle believes Cardiff City could use their momentum as a major advantage going into the South Wales derby as arch-rivals Swansea City continue to endure an alarming slump in form.
The Bluebirds have won only one of their last seven derbies against the Swans, losing five, and desperately want to change that statistic. The Swans have had the Bluebirds' number in recent years, but after earning 10 points from their last six games, Cardiff have a bit of a tailwind behind them.
They face a crucial relegation six-pointer against Rotherham at the weekend and a good result up in Yorkshire could act as a massive springboard ahead of the derby with Swansea.
"We can use every little confidence," Wintle said. "You see their results, they are dropping off a little bit. So, we've got to be confident and if they aren't confident, hopefully we can get one over on them, which we haven't done in the past few games."
Simpson to take charge of Robins clash
Jeremy Simpson is set to take charge of Swansea City's upcoming clash with Bristol City on Sunday.
It will be the second time this year the Lancashire-based whistler has taken charge of a Swans clash, having previously presided over the 4-3 defeat at Birmingham City last month.
So far this season, Simpson has taken charge of 22 matches and has handed out 100 yellow cards. He has so far only shown one red card this season, dismissing Luton Town’s Tom Lockyer.
On Sunday, he will be assisted by Jonathan Hunt and Craig Taylor.
John Busby will be the fourth official.
