Swansea City transfer news as second forward targeted, Joe Allen update emerges and striker makes exciting vow

These are your Swansea City headlines on Saturday, May 28.

Pompey interested in second Swans forward

Portsmouth are weighing up a potential move for Swansea forward Morgan Whittaker.

WalesOnline revealed earlier this month that Pompey are keen to sign Kyle Joseph. You can read the full story on Joseph here. And The News report that the League One side are also considering a swoop for his Swansea team-mate Whittaker.

The attacker spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Lincoln City, scoring five times in 20 appearances for The Imps. It's understood the Swans are wiling to offload both Whittaker and Joseph in a bid to free up funds to pursue transfer targets this summer.

Whittaker featured nine times for the Swans in the opening half of the season, although his only starts came in the Carabao Cup. Reports from the south coast of England claim Portsmouth would only consider permanent moves for Joseph and Whittaker.

Obafemi's exciting vow

Michael Obafemi believes he is only at the beginning of his upturn at Swansea following a tough start to life at the club.

The striker endured a difficult first half of the season after joining from Southampton last summer. He scored just one goal in his first 14 appearances for the Swans and was dropped from the matchday squad altogether at Bournemouth in November.

However, he excelled in 2022, scoring 11 times in his final 19 outings of the campaign. And the 21-year-old is confident that a full pre-season this summer will bolster his chances of improving even further next term.

“Pre-season will be a big boost,” he told the club's official website. “I haven’t really had many pre-seasons with a first team but I feel like it will be good to have that time and fitness going in the season.

“I feel like this is just the beginning. I had a slow start, but what the fans have seen is just a little glimpse of what I know I can do.”

Allen in Stoke talks

Stoke City have confirmed they are in talks with Joe Allen over a new contract.

The Wales star is a free agent at present, although the Potters are keen to extend the midfielder's stay at the club amid transfer interest from Swansea and several other clubs.

Russell Martin recently admitted the Swans need to offload players before they can make an official move for Allen. You can read the full update on Joe Allen here.
