Swansea City transfer news as Russell Martin could drop transfer clues tonight and rival boss says Swans can fly up the table

These are your Swansea City headlines on Tuesday, August 9

Martin's selection to be telling?

Swansea head to Oxford United tonight with a number of fringe players likely to get the nod from head coach Russell Martin.

His selection is likely to be telling for the futures of some in his squad. Martin has already revealed Dan Williams will play some part tonight before a loan move is lined up for the youngster.

Could we see Kyle Joseph line up against one of his admirers this evening? The U's, alongside Sheffield Wednesday, are keen on the utility man and it will be interesting to see if the former Wigan man does play or is kept out of the firing line to protect any future move. For Joseph also read Liam Cullen.

Steven Benda is likely to start in goal, and there will be eyes on the left-back berth later on, with Nathanael Ogbeta on the fringes at present with a move away from south Wales looking increasingly likely.

Robinson impressed by Swans

Tonight's opposition manager Karl Robinson says he wouldn't be surprised if Swansea flew up the Championship table despite their slow start to the season.

The two teams meet in the Carabao Cup first round later, with Swansea looking to right the wrongs of last weekend's miserable 3-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

It was a sorry way to the start the season at home for Russell Martin's men, but they have the chance to banish that performance in the cup tonight. And Robinson says the way Swansea are coached means it takes time to settle.

"When a team is coached so well that sometimes takes longer to get going, because the rotations and fluidity take more time," he said.

“We know that’s always going to be the way.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if you see Swansea flying up that table because of the players they’ve got and the way they’re coached.”

Grimes wants to bounce back

Saturday's defeat was clearly difficult to stomach, but skipper Matt Grimes believes tonight's trip to the Kassam Stadium is the ideal opportunity to bounce back.

“After any loss, you want to play again straight away so you can try and get a win under your belt," he said.

“Between both boxes we were OK. We were able to camp them in. It was just a game of moments; they took theirs and we didn’t take ours.

“We’re all feeling very disappointed with how the game ended up and I’m sure everyone else will be too.

“The process will stay exactly the same, we’ll review the game to see what worked and what we could have done better and take that into next week and hopefully bounce back on Tuesday.”

Early team news

Here's how the teams are shaping up ahead of kick-off.

For the hosts, Tyler Goodrham is pushing for a start against the Swans after netting a 93rd-minute winner on his Football League debut at the weekend. Sam Baldock and Yanic Wildschut are absent through injury.

Martin is likely to ring the changes, with Joe Allen set to make his long-awaited second bow to the club. Ben Cabango could feature after returning from injury, while the likes of Williams, Benda and Cameron Congreve are also likely to play some part in Oxfordshire.
