Swansea City transfer news as Obafemi draws comparisons with Spurs superstar Harry Kane and Martin set to miss out on Christie

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Sunday, June 12.

Preston 'closing in' on Christie

Cyrus Christie is reportedly closing in on a move to Preston North End this summer.

That's according to football journalist Alan Nixon, who says the Irish international is close to striking a deal that would take him to Deepdale, despite interest from Swansea City.

Christie was officially released by Fulham last month, bringing an end to a three-and-a-half year stay in West London.

It comes on the back of what was a largely successful loan spell at Swansea last season, with Christie linking up with Russell Martin's men in January, going on to make 23 appearances for the Swans.

Martin has admitted that he'd like to bring Christie back to south Wales, and there was believed to be some enthusiasm from the player's side too to get a deal done.

However, the likelihood of a move has seemingly drifted in recent weeks, and Preston could now be set to take advantage.

Obafemi on Harry Kane comparisons

Michael Obafemi has compared his partnership with countryman Troy Parrott to that of Tottenham Hotspur pair Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Obafemi attracted plenty of plaudits after producing a man-of-the-match display for the Republic of Ireland as they swept aside Scotland in an impressive 3-0 win.

The Swans star teed up Parrot for a first-half header, before hammering home an unstoppable piledriver in the second half to clinch victory and get Ireland up and running in the UEFA Nations League.

Asked if his partnership with Parrott was similar to the much-lauded Kane and Son combination, he replied: “Kind of, yes. And then in the second half I turned into Harry Kane!

“If I want to become a top player, I’ve got to develop my game and not just be one-dimensional going in behind. I felt like this season I’ve kind of done that, dropping short and getting the ball. Obviously we saw it today with me getting the assist and I’m happy with that.

“Happy to announce myself, and happy with the win. Troy played me the ball. It just opened up and I was like, ‘hit it,” he said of his wonder strike.

“I feel like sometimes I don’t take enough shots. Today I thought I’d give it a go. I looked up and I saw the darting run, and I thought, ‘I’d better put it on his nugget. It was brilliant.

“We spoke about it before the game, our link up play, and you saw it today for the second goal.”

Swans facing competition for Tucker

Swansea City are reportedly facing competition from Reading and Charlton Athletic for Gillingham defender Jack Tucker.

Tucker is attracting no shortage of interest, despite being part of a Gills side that were ultimately relegated from League One under former Cardiff City boss Neil Harris.

Tucker, who came through the academy ranks at Gillingham, has made a total of 137 appearances in all competitions for the club, netting four goals.

However, he is out of contract this summer, and looks likely to be on the move.

The Swans have already brought a new centre-back on board, of course, having snapped up Nathan Wood from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee.
