Swansea City transfer news as Lynden Gooch chase takes turn, Parrott backed for move and Woodman to join rivals permanently

These are your Swansea City headlines on Thursday, June 16.

Gooch shootout emerges

Swansea and Sunderland are in a straight shootout for Black Cats star Lynden Gooch, with Preston now out of the running.

American Gooch is out of contract at the Stadium of Light and could be on the move despite Sunderland's promotion to the Championship.

Sky Sports report it's a two-horse race now for the 26-year-old. It could be that Gooch wants a fresh challenge and an opportunity to play further forward.

"I've had a lot of games at wing-back and full-back, and obviously I've grown up playing in central areas, wanting to score goals and create goals," Gooch told Sunderland Echo last month.

“It's not been easy, it's been difficult at times but you just try to do your absolute best for your team, for your manager and for the club.

“At the end of the day, it's your job to help both the team and the manager and that's what I've tried to do.”

Gooch has been offered fresh terms by Alex Neil's side.

Parrott good fit for Sunderland

Sticking with Sunderland, former Black Cat Stephen Elliott believes Troy Parrott would be a good fit for the north east club.

Swansea are one of four teams tracking the young Tottenham forward, who impressed at MK Dons last season on loan. And former Sunderland player Elliott thinks Parrott and the newly-promoted side could be a perfect match.

"He's had that full season at League One and I think he's a better player now than League One," he told the RTÉ Soccer Podcast.

"I know people say he didn't score loads of goals in League One but the way he plays, he was always involved in goals and he started to score a few more towards the end of the season - some really good goals.

"But for him to keep improving, he needs to move himself up a level. I think somewhere like Sunderland - they need a couple of strikers - they've got Ross Stewart there at the moment but he could do with a little help in there.

"I think if Troy Parrott came to Sunderland, I think he'd embrace playing for a club like that with the big crowds, the atmosphere at the games and that feeling of doing well there and thriving there.

"He looks like the type of player that thrives on playing on the big occasion and I think it could be a really good move."

Woodman to join Preston

Freddie Woodman has agreed to join Preston.

The shot-stopper is out of contract at Newcastle United at the end of the 2022/23 season and the Lilywhites hope to complete a permanent move for the former Swansea loanee.

A medical is pencilled in for next week, according to our colleagues at the Chronicle. Woodman spent a disappointing second half of last season on loan with Bournemouth and had to watch on from the bench as the Cherries secured promotion back to the Premier League.

Woodman spent two seasons in south Wales under Steve Cooper, helping Swansea to two play-off finishes.

Clarets preparing defender swoop

Burnley are weighing up a possible move for Swansea City defender Joel Latibeaudiere.

Sources have told WalesOnline the Clarets are currently preparing a bid for the defender, which would potentially be worth around £500,000.

The 22-year-old currently has one year left on his current deal at the Swansea.com Stadium, and is well known to new Burnley boss Vincent Kompany, having played and trained with the Belgian during their time at Manchester City together.

Swans Ladies appoint Beale

Swansea City Ladies have appointed Jon Beale as their new head coach

The ladies will find out their opponents for their Uefa Champions League Round One fixture at 1pm on Friday, June 24, when the draw is made.

Beale said: “I’m really looking forward to continuing the work we did last season with the girls.

“I’m excited about the prospect of being head coach and I’m grateful to Ian (Owen, general manager) and Leigh (Dineen, chairman) for the opportunity and I’m looking forward to the things we’ve got coming up: Champions League, looking to defend our title, and be competitive in the cup competitions like we were last season.

“The momentum of winning the league – and I think it was a difficult period, we lost a lot of key players for various reasons but the players that were there really stepped up to the plate and got the job done in terms of winning the league.

“If we want to be successful, defend out league title, be competitive in cup competitions and give a good account of ourselves in the Champions League, we have to meet those standards.

“It’s important that the players demand from us as a staff as well. That will help us all improve and drive forward."
