Swansea City transfer news as Joel Piroe speaks out on future

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City news for Monday, May 15.

Piroe speaks out on future

Joel Piroe admits he's not sure if he will stay at Swansea City this summer.

The Dutchman has one year left on his current deal at the Swansea.com Stadium, having netted over 40 goals in his first two seasons with the club.

Russell Martin, while clearly keen to keep the striker on board, has already admitted a move away could happen, although at the time of writing there doesn't appear to be anything concrete on the table from anyone.

However, with there now an increasingly real risk of losing him on a free next summer, and with the latest accounts pointing to a loss of over £10m, Swansea may well feel it will make financial sense to sell him before the end of this coming transfer window.

Piroe himself has previously insisted he's happy with the Swans, but admits he's flattered by some of the speculation.

However, he's also hinted that if he does move, it will be to a club where he will play regular football as he bids to further his development.

"Whether I will stay in Swansea for another year? There is a lot of speculation, but it remains to be seen whether something concrete will happen," he told Eindhovens Dagblad.

"It is nice to hear that clubs are interested. I mainly look at where I can play a lot and continue to take steps as a football player."

Rotherham to go all out to keep Ogbene

Rotherham United have reportedly offered the most lucrative contract in their history in a bid to keep hold of Swansea City target Chiedozie Ogbene.

The Swans have been admirers of the Republic of Ireland international for some time, and could step up their efforts to bring him to south Wales now he's officially become a free agent.

Ogbene has been on the radar at the Swans for at least a year now, and the club did explore the possibility of landing him back in January but were reluctant to meet Rotherham's valuation.

The Millers were clearly keen on keeping him on board to help aid their fight against relegation and, with Championship status assured for another season, they are keen to ensure his stay is extended even further.

Boss Matt Taylor recently confirmed the club had already opened discussions over a new deal, and the Irish Examiner claims the contract on the table is the most valuable to have ever been offered to a player in the club's history.

Schumacher still keen on Whittaker

Plymouth Argyle boss Steven Schumacher has reiterated his desire to work with Morgan Whittaker once again.

The 22-year-old attacker scored nine goals for the Pilgrims before he was recalled by Championship club Swansea City at the start of January.

Despite interest from Scottish giants Rangers, Whittaker stayed with the Swans following a hectic winter window, although his ties to Home Park are clearly still strong.

And Schumacher admits he's still interested in bringing the former Derby County starlet back to Devon following their promotion to the Championship.

"We felt he did brilliant here," Schumacher said. "I felt if he had stayed playing the way he was playing, and kept his numbers up, he would have run Aaron Collins close for player of the season.

"He did outstanding. It was Swansea's call to do what they did, and it developed how it developed.

"I don't know what their plan is with him moving forward but he's a person that I really like and a player that we can all see is outstanding as well. If we can work with him, great."
