Swansea City transfer news as Huddersfield Town enter Joe Allen running with decision imminent and futures of trio take twist

These are your Swansea City headlines on Sunday, June 26

Huddersfield enter Allen race

Swansea's Championship rivals Huddersfield Town have reportedly shown an interest in signing Joe Allen.

The Wales midfielder revealed earlier this week that he would not be renewing his contract with Stoke City, bringing an end to a six-year stay in the Potteries. "After six years it’s tough to be leaving but I believe it’s the right time for both myself and the club to be parting ways," he said in a statement. “There’s so many players and staff who I’ve loved working with and who have made it a pleasure to be at the club.

“I’m also grateful to those supporters who have got behind the team through the good but also tougher times. I’m confident that with the current management and group of players there will be exciting times ahead. All the best, Joe.”

Swansea head coach Russell Martin is an admirer of Allen and wants to bring him back to south Wales this summer, but the Terriers are now in the mix - although they will find his wages hard to contend with, report The Sun. A decision on his future will be taken this week, they add.

Future of trio takes twist

Portsmouth can no longer afford to stump up transfer fees for any of Kyle Joseph, Liam Cullen and Morgan Whittaker - with loan approaches now more likely.

That's the latest news from the south coast, with The News reporting Pompey "are looking increasingly unlikely to develop their interest in permanent moves for Swansea’s array of attacking talent".

The League One club have been interested in the trio for some time, with a swap deal involving Swans target Marcus Harness mooted at one stage. Permanent moves look unlikely, with The News adding they understand "the only way permanent moves would presently accelerate for the Swansea players is if they were allowed to leave on free transfers".

Swansea will want to recoup fees for any player not leaving on loan this summer, therefore the only avenue left for the Fratton Park club is through loan approaches.

Cooper wants Swansea chance

Ollie Cooper says he wants to build on his loan spell with Newport County to break into Russell Martin's first-team plans.

The attacking midfielder spent the 2021-22 season with the Exiles and did well at Rodney Parade, registering a goal and nine assists. But the next challenge is to impress Martin and break into Swansea's squad ahead of the new term.

“The assist side of it I was really happy with, I would have liked to contribute a bit more on the goals side of things, if I am honest,” he said.

“But, for my first real loan experience, it was a good one for me. It was so important for me to get out and play. I did that, and to finish the season with the most assists at Newport was good, but I felt I could have done more and got more goals and assists. Had I done that I would have come back happier.

“There is always more you can do, you always want to do more, you have to have that mentality. I have to keep improving, keep looking to that next level and I am looking to try and get more opportunities with Swansea.

“I want to keep playing, I have had an experience of it and I want it to continue. Ideally, I want that to be at Swansea but it’s down to me to work hard to try and make that happen and we will see what comes from that.”
